Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) Technique,
and The Strip Method

The Consultant Team is particularly well known for the treatment of hair conditions (such as male and female pattern alopecias) which ranges from classic and innovative medical treatments to carrying out hair transplants once all medical avenues have been exhausted.

With a track record of in excess of 4000 hair transplants, our hair transplant team is able to offer both the Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) Technique and the more traditional Strip Method for hair transplants.

Hair Transplants
Specialist headsets are used during hair transplant procedures
FUE: A special punch of a diameter of less than 1mm is used to extract the hair and a thin rim of surrounding tissue from the scalp. This procedure causes virtually no trauma to the skin, if compared with the Strip Method (which involves the harvesting of larger groups of hair follicles) and does not require the use of scalpel and suturing.

FUE is, however, much more time consuming than the Strip method and in a surgical session only about 450-550 hairs can be transplanted. This means that it is most suited for use with patients who need to cover only a small area.

The Strip Method, on the other hand, involves removal from the donor area deemed most suitable by our team of experts, of an entire group of follicular units. This strip of hair follicular units is then dissected into individual units with the help of a special high-powered microscope, exercising care not to damage the individual hair follicles in the process. The dissected units are then kept at the correct temperature and in a special solution whilst the recipient sites on the patient's scalp are prepared. The units are then inserted into the bald or thinning recipient areas with extreme care so to avoid damaging them during the implantation process.

Our specialist hair surgical team undertakes a number of steps to ensure that you will be happy with the end result. For a start they will have got to know you reasonably well whilst making all the necessary checks to ensure that the medical avenues for natural hair regrowth have been exhausted. You will be encouraged to ask all the questions you have so that you feel entirely comfortable about the procedure before the transplant is carried out. This, coupled with a combination of examination of pre-hair loss photographs and, particularly in the case of female patients, discussions about how you wish to style your hair helps our team to achieve their goal of a natural looking finish.

Several factors contribute to the achievement of a good overall result including proper selection, excision and closure of the donor area; expertise in the follicular dissection process and care to ensure that the graft is kept properly hydrated and stored appropriately whilst awaiting insertion into the recipient area; the correct layout/arrangement, direction and angle of insertion into the recipient area and placement of the grafts using the right techniques to avoid damage to the hair follicles; and, last but by no means least, the correct post operative care.
